11- Extra Full-Length Tour
Before setting off this two day excursion, you take part in the last minute preparations and are introduced to the basics of dogsledding safety
(1 hour). Then we are ready to take off.
After travelling several kilometers, we stop for lunch in a genuine coureur de bois cabin. Here you enjoy a nice hot drink and make yourself delicious
toasts on the woodstove. Will it be our local honey or maple syrup on your toasts?
After a few hours on the trails, we stop in the heart of the Havre des sources (Haven of Sources) Valley for an introduction to ice fishing. An
ice fishing pro is there to teach you all you need to know about this fascinating sport. You will be fishing pure water bred rainbow and speckled
(or brook) trout you can enjoy the very same night. All fishing equipment and baits are provided.
Once the fishing is over, we head toward our night camp through a natural forest, over frozen lakes, up hills and mountains, down snowy trails and
through maple groves and bogs. This portion of the excursion takes us over several kilometers of groomed trails and out of track.
Of course, the guides prepare fresh fish for supper.
When night falls, you get to choose between sleeping in a tepee on a camping mattress or in a log cabin on a camp bed.
A hearty breakfast early the next morning has you ready for a long morning of dosledding. Along the way, the guide shares with you his wildlife
knowledge, describing the fauna and tree species.
In the afternoon, you have the privilege of visiting the first Athabascan Bison Sanctuary in Québec. This reserve was set up in order to
protect this wonderful endangered species. The man who imports the bison, quite a colourful character, is very passionate about these legendary
beasts and gladly shares the captivating story of these fascinating giants, while you watch them at mealtime.
Up on Bison hill a breathtaking view of the valley awaits you. You will be taken back in time as you visit a Naskapi, an authentic reindeer
skin winter tepee. This comfortable tent-like shelter belongs to the Kawawachikamach native community, located on the border of Québec and
Labrador. Inside you get to taste pemmican, which is sweetened, smoked and dried bison meat, as you warm up.
During this sporting, educational and cultural excursion you find out what the true lives of mushers and their sled dogs are like. Upon your
return at the end of the day, it is our pleasure to answer any questions you might have about the mushers' activities and you are welcome to
take part in the feeding of the dogs.
It is in some sort our most diversified excursion.
Do not forget your camera because the pictures and stories you will bring back about the different habits and customs will leave you with
undying memories.
Your comfort is of the utmost importance so please bring along as much clothes as you need.
