8- Athabascan Tour
On this diversified five-hour tour you get to safely learn to mush a sled with a team of over six dogs. Travelling by dogsled over 45 kilometers
through the splendour and richness of our immense territory will mesmerize you. This tour takes you over frozen lakes, up the maple grove mountain
and through a snow-laden forest where you discover the winter habitats and habits of different forest animals, including beavers and martens. As
custom has it with the coureurs de bois, we share a meal in the forest.
You also have the privilege of visiting the first Athabascan Bison
Sanctuary in Québec.
This reserve was set up in order to protect this wonderful endangered species. The man who imports the bison, quite a colourful character,
is very passionate about these legendary beasts and gladly shares the captivating story of these fascinating giants, while you watch
them at mealtime.
Up on Bison hill a breathtaking view of the valley awaits you. You will be taken back in time as you visit a Naskapi, an authentic reindeer
skin winter tepee. This comfortable tent-like shelter belongs to the Kawawachikamach native community, located on the border of Québec and
Labrador. Inside you get to taste pemmican, which is sweetened, smoked and dried bison meat, as you warm up.
You will be amazed at the number of photography opportunities all along the trails and you will take back unforgettable memories of surprising
wildlife habits and ancestral customs.
